SURPRISE, Ariz. -
Yuefeng (Michael) Ma finished tied for fourth out of a field of 64 golfers to help the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team finish sixth out of 11 teams at the Ottawa (Arizona) Fall Invitational, held at Sterling Grove Golf Club.
Ma shot a pair of one-under 71s on Monday's two rounds, and then closed out with a 73 on Tuesday to finish in the red for the tournament at -1, three shots off co-winners Augie Mann of Marian and Jonathan Larson of The Master's University.
Ma had six birdies in his second round on Monday, after a steady opening round with three birdies and two bogeys. He also had 14 pars and two birdies on Tuesday's final round.
As a team, CMS had its best round on Tuesday in the windy conditions with a 293, after shooting a 300 and a 303 in the two rounds on Monday.
Arnold He closed out with a 70 on Tuesday to lead the way for CMS, shooting five birdies on his round. moving up to 19th on the final individual leaderboard.
Jamison Tan also closed with a 73 on Tuesday for his best round, making four birdies.
Jonathan Zhang opened with an even-par 72 and
Ryan Liang had a 74 on his opening round.
CMS will be back in action next week when it closes out its fall schedule at the Westmont Invitational in Goleta, California.
