ROME, Ga. - Advik Mareedu played three tight sets against Aiden Drover-Mattinen of RPI in the semifinals of the ITA Cup on Saturday, and prevailed in two of them as he earned a 7-5, 6-7, 6-4 win at the Rome Tennis Center.

Mareedu is now one win away from his second career ITA Cup championship, after winning it as a freshman in 2022. He will face Ethan Green of Denison, who also went three sets in his semifinal on Saturday, defeating Alex Feies 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.

Mareedu fought off two set points in the first set, trailing 5-4 and 30-40, before winning the deuce point to get back on level terms and then coming up with a big break for a 7-5 win. He then saved four in a row in the second set, down 5-6 and 0-40 to force a tiebreaker, and led 3-0 and 5-3 in the tiebreaker, before Drover-Mattinen came up with four big points in a row of his own to take the tiebreaker and force it to a third.

In the third, set Mareedu twice went up a service break, but Drover-Mattinen was able to break back. Mareedu then got the third and decisive break he needed up 5-4 in the third to finish off the 7-5, 6-7, 6-4 win.

Caleb Settles and Brandon Vu had a dominant effort in the consolation bracket in doubles, winning 6-2, 6-3 over Christian Liew and Ruilin Feng of Emory, who were the No. 2 seed in the tournament. Settles was not broken on his serve, and is now 35-1 in service games in ITA competition this fall.

Warren Pham and Matthew Robinson suffered a close defeat to Jordan Theron and Quinn Wicklund of Sewanee in the consolation doubles bracket, as Wicklund and Theron came back from a first-set tiebreaker defeat to win 6-7, 6-3, 10-7. Pham closed out singles with a win, defeating Cameron Yang of Whitman 6-1, 6-2.

The final between Mareedu and Green will get underway tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. local (5 a.m. Pacific).
