CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Henry Wilson and
Kristian Sharma earned a tight 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) win over Marlon Abarca and Samuel Parsons of Redlands to win the ITA West Regional doubles championship on Sunday afternoon at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.
Wilson and Sharma secure All-America honors for the 2026-27 season with their championship and advance to the ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia in 10 days.
Sibi Raja finished as the runner-up in singles, and will also qualify for the ITA Cup as well, after he and Wilson won the doubles title a year ago.
In fact, it was the third year in a row that the Stags have had the doubles champions, with Wilson (sophomore) and Sharma (freshman) actually being the oldest of the three pairings. Wilson and Raja were both freshmen last year, while
Caleb Settles and
Brandon Vu won it as freshmen in 2024.
Wilson and Sharma needed a tiebreaker to get out of the first round in doubles, winning 8-7 (7-3) over Gustavo Marcanth and William Pullin of Redlands. They then won 8-3, 8-6, and 8-5 to reach the finals, and were able to prevail with a tiebreaker win after it was tied 5-5. Redlands had a ball sail out to give CMS match point, and then Wilson won it with a forehand winner.
Anirudh Reddy and
Josh Kim also reached the semifinals in doubles, before falling to Parsons and Abarca on Sunday morning, following a tiebreaker win in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
Raja won in straight sets in four straight singles matches to get to Sunday's final, where he was the runner-up to Drew Goldman of Pomona-Pitzer. His 6-4, 6-3 win over Leo Rocca on Saturday in the semifinals secured him his second straight trip to the ITA Cup.
Ethan Kim had a solid showing in the B flight for CMS as well, reaching the semifinals before a hard-fought three-set defeat to Jack Van Ness of Cal Lutheran. Kim had a three-set win over Ethan Zhou of Pomona-Pitzer in the second round, winning the pro-set tiebreaker 10-3.
The ITA Cup will get started on Oct. 15, with 16 entrants in singles and doubles.
