CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Annie McKinley of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team earned the SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week Award for games through Sunday, Oct. 13, the conference office announced today.
McKinley led a defense from her center back spot that allowed opponents only two shot attempts in two games (one each against La Verne and Caltech), and added a goal on the offensive end, as the Athenas picked up six points with a pair of home wins. CMS needed the strong defense, as it took a late goal in the 79th minute for a 1-0 win over La Verne and then scored in the 70th and 75th minute for a 3-1 win over Caltech. McKinley scored in the 75th minute to help seal the win, getting a goal on her Senior Day
McKinley becomes the second Athena honored this season, after
Cate Lewison earned the Offensive Player of the Week honor on Sept. 16, after scoring the game-tying goal in the second half against UC Santa Cruz and the game-winner against St. Catherine's.
CMS will be back in action on Wednesday when it travels to face Occidental for a 7 p.m. contest.
