PASADENA, Calif. -
Luke Leonard had three goals and three assists for a team-high six points as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's water polo team picked up its sixth win in a row with a dominant 22-5 win over Caltech on Wednesday evening.
With the win, CMS moves to 11-7 on the season and 4-1 in the SCIAC with its third straight conference win since a one-goal defeat to Occidental (15-14).
Luke (Bear) Weigle, the reigning SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week, added a hat trick for the Stags as well, as 14 different players scored goals.
CMS took control with a 5-0 run that pushed a 2-1 lead up to 7-1. After Weigle and Netherton scored to make it 2-0, Caltech cut the deficit in half with 4:39 left in the first quarter, but
Hassen Hove answered 24 seconds later.
Ivey Gehring and
Auggie Aliaga capped off the first quarter with goals to make it 5-1, and
Nick Kennedy and
Cristian Pang started the second quarter with goals to make it a 7-1 game.
The Beavers got their second goal to stop the run, but Weigle and Kennedy netted their second goals, and Leonard capped off the half with his first to make it 10-3 at the break.
Aliaga,
Asher Engelberg, and Kennedy each had two goals for CMS.
Ashwin Rhodes,
Jeffrey Koretz,
Jordan Lind, and
Stryker Scales also tallied scores.
Jake Taylor had one save in the first half to get the win, and
Chase Campbell made four saves in the second half.
CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it travels to Cal Lutheran for an 11 a.m. contest.
