Athenas Golf Closes Fall Schedule with Dual Win over La Verne

SAN DIMAS, Calif. - Esther Lee shot an even-par 72, including a -4 on the back nine, to lead the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team to a dual win over La Verne on Sunday at Via Verde Country Club. 

The Athenas finished off a fall schedule which saw them finish first at the California State Intercollegiate on Sept. 9-10, and third at the Redlands Invitational on Sept. 30-Oct. 1, earning a national ranking of No. 5 in the most recent poll from the Women's Golf Coaches Association. 

Stella Cheng was right behind Lee with a 73, while Jessie Kong had a 78 and Emily Zhou shot a 79, as CMS finished with a score of 302. Mia Gonzalez led La Verne with a 77 to come in third. Jayla Provence, playing as an individual for the Athenas carded a 79, while Monique Arroyo earned an 80. 

CMS will return to action in the spring, when it will try to earn its way back to the NCAA Championships. The Athenas have finished in the top 10 in each of the last six seasons it has competed, including a national title in 2018, as well as a third-place finish in 2023.
