SANTA ANITA, Calif. -
Alisa Ching shot -1 to help the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team maintain a one-shot lead over Pomona-Pitzer after the second of three rounds at the SCIAC Championships on Friday at Santa Anita Golf Course.
CMS stands at +5 after two rounds, holding off a surge from Pomona-Pitzer, which shot -2 on Friday after +8 in its opening round on Thursday. The two Sixth Street rivals have pulled way ahead of the field, with Redlands currently in third at +22, 17 strokes behind the Athenas.
Ching had five birdies on the day, including one on No. 18 to help the Athenas pull one shot ahead of the Sagehens.
Esther Lee also had a furious finish, picking up birdies on No. 16, No. 17 and No. 18 to end the day with a 73 (+1), while
Ella Chiu added a birdie on No. 18 as part of her round of +2 (74).
Christine Yu was +2 on Friday after tying a CMS record with a -5 on Thursday, and now stands in second place on the individual leaderboard at -3, two shots behind Annabelle Chan of Pomona-Pitzer. Lee is now in fourth place at even par, while Ching moved up seven spots into a tie for sixth at +3 and Chiu maintained her tenth-place position.
The third and final round will take place tomorrow, beginning at 9 a.m., with the Athenas teeing off in the later groups, beginning at 9:35.
