SANTA ANITA, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team shot -5 as a team on the third and final day of the SCIAC Championships to win by 11 strokes on Saturday afternoon at the Santa Anita Golf Course. 

CMS came into the day with just a one-shot lead on Pomona-Pitzer, but was able to shoot five shots under par to pull even for the tournament with an 864, while the Sagehens shot +5 on Saturday to finish at +11 for the three days. 

Christine Yu tied for the individual title with a -6 over her three rounds, including a program-record tying -5 (67) for the first round on Thursday, and a -3 in her final round on Saturday. Esther Lee finished in third place with a score of -1, including -1 on Saturday, while Alisa Ching also shot -1 on Saturday to finish fifth at +2 for the tournament. 

Precilla Tea added an even-par round of 72 on Saturday to move up five spots into a tie for 13th in the final individual leaders at +11, while Ella Chiu also tied for 13th over the three days.

The Athenas closed with a flourish, as Yu, Lee, Ching and Tea all had birdies on the 18th hole to stretch the final margin out even further. Yu shot -3 on the front nine with birdies on No. 1, No. 3, and No. 9, and had her only bogey of the round on the 15th, before bouncing back with a birdie on No. 18. 

Lee was -1 on the front nine with a birdie on No. 6 and eight pars. She also had only one bogey in her round (on No. 11), before her birdie on 18 put her in the red. Ching closed out with back-to-back birdies on No. 17 and No. 18, and Tea had birdies on No. 16 and No. 18. 

With the tournament win, CMS earns the SCIAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships, which it will host next month at the Desert Willow Golf Course in Palm Desert.
