CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's water polo team controlled both matches as it came away with a 12-5 win over Wagner and a 17-6 win over Biola on the second day of the Gary Troyer Tournament on Saturday at Axelrood Pool.
With the two wins, CMS now stands at 8-7 on the year, getting over .500 for the first time.
Nick Kennedy had six goals on the day, scoring twice in the opening game against Wagner and four times against Biola.
Luke (Bear) Weigle had a hat trick in the opening contest, while
Ivey Gehring and
Thomas Walker had hat tricks in the nightcap.
Jake Taylor allowed just three goals against Wagner in three quarters, while making six saves, and followed up with five saves and only four goals allowed against Biola.
Gehring had a big day defensively, tallying six steals in the Wagner win, and then adding two more in the win over Biola.
Auggie Aliaga scored twice in the opener, and Weigle had his second multi-goal game with two in the nightcap.
Luke Leonard and
Cristian Pang scored in both games, with Pang adding three assists in the Wagner win.
CMS led 5-2 at the half against Wagner before scoring the first five goals of the second half. The Stags opened up a 6-0 lead early against Biola before stretching it to 12-2 at halftime.
CMS will be back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Whittier at 7 p.m.
