Georgia McGovern earned the SCIAC Offensive Player of the Year Award, senior libero
Dede Carranza earned the Defensive Player of the Year, and head Kurt Vlasich and assistant coach Megan Kronschnabel earned the Coaching Staff of the Year Award, the league office announced today.
McGovern and Carranza were joined on the All-SCIAC first team by senior middle hitter
Dani Beder and junior outside hitter
Brooke McKee, while senior right side hitter
Brenna Bell earned a spot on the second team.
McGovern heads into postseason play with 918 assists on the season, putting her in reach of her second straight 1000-assist season after tallying 1195 last year on her way to first-team All-America honors. She is one of only two setters to record 1000 assists at CMS, and also ranks No. 1 in program history with 213 career service aces.
Carranza enters the SCIAC Tournament closing in on the program's all-time dig record with 2076, just 45 shy of the high-water mark of 2121, set by Megan Coleman (2021-24). She has 529 digs this season, a career-best 5.81 per set, and has also contributed 47 service aces and 108 assists offensively.
Beder has tallied a career-high 151 kills so far this season, with a team-best .355 hitting percentage. She also is second on the Athenas with 55 blocks. McKee is the team-leader in kills with 319, and has had 18 matches in double digits in kills, including four of 20 or more, earning SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week after tallying 20 against Cal Lutheran. Bell has chipped in with 226 kills, with a high of 24 against nationally ranked Emory, which earned her the SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week honor.
CMS earned the regular season league title with a 14-2 conference record, and the top seed in the conference tournament, opening play in tomorrow's semifinal round against Pomona-Pitzer at 7 p.m. Tickets are free for people with ID from a SCIAC institution, or are available in advance through TicketLeap at the following link:
