CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Benjamin Littlefield earned the SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week and
Samuel Brewer captured the Special Teams Player of the Week for games through Saturday, Nov. 16, the SCIAC office announced today.
Littlefield had three quarterback sacks as the Stags shut out Redlands 24-0 in the season finale to tie the program record with its eighth win of the season. He had two sacks on first downs in the second quarter with CMS holding a 7-0 lead, and then had one in the third quarter to kill another Bulldogs drive deep in their own end of the field. Littlefield becomes the fourth different Stag to win Defensive Player of the Week, joining
Michael Houk,
Jacob O'Connell and
Elijah Costa.
Brewer averaged 43.3 yards per punt on his four punts to help CMS win the field position battle and give the Bulldogs long fields to work with. He had a 50-yarder that just bounced over the line for a touchback, and also had a 47-yarder and 42-yarder that both pinned Redlands inside its own 20-yard line. He earns the SCIAC Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time this season, joining kicker
Rich Brutto, who also won it twice, while
Mason Cotton earned it once after a punt return for a touchdown.
CMS finished the year 8-2, tying the program record for wins that was first set in 1970, and then matched in 1986 and again last year. The senior class graduated with 30 wins, five more than any previous four-year class.
