PASADENA, Calif. -
Meilan Uyeno swept the diving events and
Nika Makhervaks won both backstroke events as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's swimming and diving team took a 228-71 win over Caltech on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, CMS moves to 3-0 in SCIAC duals this year and 3-1 overall.
Uyeno earned both diving wins, edging out Jana Woo of Caltech in the one-meter by 4.6 points (268.6 to 264.0) and winning by 33.1 points in the three-meter over teammate
Josie Kearns.
Makhervaks had a close win in the 100 back over teammate
Annette Chang (1:00.06 to 1:00.18) and then won by just over three seconds over teammate
Molly Beetner in the 200 back.
CMS also dominated the freestyle events, taking first in all five distances.
Lyla Browne led a 1-2-3-4 Athena finish in the 50 free in 25.58, edging
Praise Okodogbe in second in 25.75.
Ally Rudolph was first in the 100 free in 55.24.
In the distance events,
Corley Smith took first in the 1000 free in a close race, finishing in 10:40.95 to win by just over a second over Elizabeth Ma of Caltech.
Katy Shaw won by 1.06 seconds in the 200 free over teammate
Avalon Sanders (1:56.30 to 1:57.36), while Sanders edged Shaw in the 500 free (5:10.91 to 5:12.58), with Smith coming in third.
Kelly Prawira dominated the 100 breast in 1:08.46, a margin of almost four seconds, and
Revere Schmidt took first in the 200 breast in 2:30.90.
Madeleine Kan had a 59.46 in the 100 fly to lead another 1-2-3-4 CMS finish, and
Mackenzie Mayfield won the 200 IM in 2:09.41.
CMS opened with a win in the 200-yard medley relay, as
Annika Sharma, Prawira, Mayfield and Kan finished in 1:49.17. The Athenas then closed out the meet with a win in the 400 free relay, as Sharma, Mayfield,
Caitlin Kuhlmann and Kan earned a 3:38.22 finishing time.
CMS will next be in action for the ELAC Invitational Nov. 22-24, before returning to SCIAC competition for its two-day dual with Pomona-Pitzer after Thanksgiving.
