CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Katy Shaw led a 1-2-3 finish for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's swimming and diving team in the 1650 with a 17:03.35, moving her into third place all time in program history, but Pomona-Pitzer was able to come away with a 221-132 win in a two-day meet on Friday and Saturday at Haldeman Pool.
Shaw, who also won the 500 on Friday, earned an NCAA "B" cut with her time, winning by almost 30 seconds.
Corley Smith was second for the Athenas in 17:30.33, while
Avalon Sanders was third in 17:34.91.
Revere Schmidt, who was swimming an exhibition swim, also had a 17:45.51 to give CMS the top four finishers. Sanders added a second-place finish in the 200 free in 1:53.49.
The Athenas also dominated the diving events for the second day in a row, earning the top six finishers.
Izzy Doud took first in the three-meter to sweep the two events on Saturday with a 289.70, in a neck-and-neck battle with
Alexis Romero, who came in second with 288.05, followed by
Meilan Uyeno in third.
Madeleine Kan took first place in the 100 fly in 55.48 to record an NCAA "B" cut with
Mackenzie Mayfield in second with a 56.04. Kan was just .11 off her personal best, which ranks No. 5 in Athena history.
Saturday's action started with an NCAA "B" cut from the 200-yard medley relay team of
Annika Sharma, Mayfield,
Sun Young Byun and
Madeleine Kan, which earned the No. 4 time in CMS history (1:43.37) to take second behind the pool record of 1:42.90 set by the Sagehens. The Athenas also had an NCAA "B" cut in the 400 free relay to end the meet with Sharma, Mayfield,
Annette Chang and Kan earning a 3:27.55.
CMS will be back in action after the new year, when it takes on Occidental in a dual meet at Axelrood Pool on Jan. 4.
