CMS Women's Lacrosse Takes 24-1 Win over Redlands on Senior Day

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team honored seniors Ainsley Basic, Kendall Chapko, Emma Merk, Catherine Murphy and Sabine Salles prior to the contest for their Senior Day, and then went on to a 24-1 win over Redlands on Saturday at Zinda Field.

With the win, CMS moves to 10-3 overall on the season and 8-1 in the SCIAC, setting up a big meeting on Wednesday night at Pomona-Pitzer with a chance to tie the Sagehens for first place in league play. Redlands falls to 6-9 overall and 2-8 in the SCIAC with the loss. 

Chapko played the entire game in goal for the Athenas and had six saves and allowed only one goal. Murphy had three goals and two assists, and Basic had a goal and a team-high three caused turnovers. 

Grace Minturn had four goals and an assist to tie Murphy for the team lead in points, while also adding a team-high four ground balls. Amelia Ulmer scored four goals, Taylor Daetz had three, and Julia Ryan had a goal to go along with a team-high four assists and 12 draw controls. Stella Hansot also had a goal and three assists, while Annie Parizeau scored twice. 

Daetz had three of the first five goals of the game over the first seven minutes, with Minturn scoring two in that stretch to give CMS a 5-0 lead. Ulmer then scored three times in the final 7:25 of the first quarter, with Cate Lewison adding one, to make it a 9-0 lead. 

Minturn opened the second quarter with a goal and then fed Ulmer to make it 11-0, before Redlands was able to get onto the board. Sheridan Dorsey, Basic, Natalie Teare and Ava Marra added second-half tallies. 

CMS will meet Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday with a chance to pull even in the SCIAC standings.
