Jeissy Lee and first-year
Berenice Stolte each shot a 74 to help the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team hold off host Cal Lutheran by three strokes and win the California State Intercollegiate team title on Tuesday at Olivas Links.
CMS came into the day with a three-shot lead after Monday's opening round, when it shot a 295 (+7), and matched Cal Lutheran with a 301 (+13) to hold for the win. Redlands finishing in third place 13 shots behind the Athenas, while UC Santa Cruz was fourth 25 shots back.
Jessie Kong shot a 76 on Tuesday after an opening-round 72 to finish in a tie for third place at +4 for the tournament, out a field of 59 golfers. Stolte ended up in sixth in her debut tournament with a 149, while
Christine Yu came in seventh place with a 151.
Stella Cheng and Lee both tied for 12th with a 153.
Lee had a key stretch when she picked up three straight birdies on No. 8, 9 and 10 on her way to a 74. Stolte and Kong each shot -1 on the front nine, with each picking up a birdie on No. 2.
CMS will return to action in three weeks when it competes in the Redlands Invitational on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.
