CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Samuel Brewer was named the SCIAC Special Teams Player of the Week for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps football team, the conference office announced today.
Brewer had the game-tying field goal on the final play of regulation to force overtime in a 22-19 win over La Verne on Saturday, converting a 20-yarder from the right hashmark. He also had a big role as a punter, averaging 45.2 yards on six kicks, including a 49-yarder that went out of bounds on the La Verne nine-yard line.
Brewer has now earned the SCIAC honor three times in his career, including twice last season, when he was the CMS punter, before adding placekicking duties this season. He becomes the third different Stag to be honored by the SCIAC this season, joining Defensive Player of the Week winners
Michael Houk and
George Kruger.
CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it travels to Chapman for a 7 p.m. contest.
