Logan Mills (-2) finished tied for fifth out of 59 golfers, and
Samson Li (E) came in seventh as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team finished as the runner-up at the Ottawa (Ariz.) Fall Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at Sterling Grove Golf Course.
CMS finished at +10, behind only the University of British Columbia (-3), placing the Stags first amongst U.S. Colleges, six shots ahead of the hosts from Ottawa. The Stags were consistent over their three rounds, shooting 291-291-292 to end the 54 holes at +10.Â
Mills shot a 69 (-3) in the final round on Tuesday, the low round for a Stag on the weekend, to move up into a tie for fifth overall. He shot a -3 on the front nine, with back-to-back birdies on the seventh and eighth holes, and then shot even par on the back nine to earn his top-five finish.Â
Li ended two shots back at even par for the tournament, after birdieing the 18th hole on Tuesday to earn a 72. Li had a 71 (-1) on his second round on Monday, which included an eagle on the 11th hole.Â
Sebi Aliaga earned 14th place for the Stags at +4, which included a 71 in the first round on Monday, when he picked up a birdie on No. 18 to end his round in the red.
Ryan Liang came in 20th place at +8 for the weekend, with his top round coming with a 74 on Monday, when he had five birdies.Â
CMS will be back in action on Sunday, when it travels to Pebble Beach for a dual with Santa Clara.Â
