HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team shot -4 as a team to take the lead after the first of four days at the NCAA Division III Championships at the Mission Inn Result.
The Stags are one shot ahead of Carnegie Mellon and two shots ahead of Kenyon, as only three teams finished the first round in the red. Bethel stood at -1 midway through its first round, when play was halted due to weather conditions.
Arnold He stands in second place on the individual leaderboard at -4, after a round which featured an eagle on the first hole (his tenth), followed by birdies on No. 2 and No. 4. He also finished with a birdie on No. 9 to finish at -4, alone in second, and just one shot behind Adrian Jordan of Kenyon in first place.
Logan Mills joined He by shooting in the red at -1, tied for 15th overall, after starting out with three birdies in his first six holes, and then settling in for a solid finish of five straight pars.
Sebi Aliaga finished at even par, tied for 28th, after also getting off to a strong start with two birdies on his first three holes.
Samson Li also finished at +1, including -1 over his final four holes as he found his groove for the second day. Wednesday's action will start with the conclusion of the first round, before the Stags will start their second round.
Prior to the start of the championships, the Golf Coaches Association of America released its all region teams, and Mills, Li and Aliaga were all named to the All-West squad in their rookie seasons. They are now eligible for All-America honors, which will be announced later this month.
