AKRON, Ohio -
Sebi Aliaga played a bogey-free final round in -3 to win the individual title by two strokes, his third straight tournament win including the NCAA Division III title last spring, as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team took second place out of 13 teams at the Blue Streak Invitational, hosted by John Carroll at the Firestone Country Club.
Host John Carroll won the team competition with a +17, finishing two shots ahead of CMS at +19, with Transylvania third at +26. The Stags nearly had another patented final-round comeback, after winning the 2026 NCAA Championship last year after being down seven strokes, shooting -15 in the final round, and the SCIAC Championship in 2025, when it came back from 13 shots down by shooting -22 in the final round. CMS started Tuesday's action at Firestone down by 12, and took a one-shot lead at one point on the back nine, before John Carroll was able to prevail late.
Aliaga has now played 13 straight rounds of par or better, and eight in a row in the red. He shot a 71 (-1) in both of his Monday rounds at the Blue Streak Invitational, and then closed out with a 69 on Tuesday to shoot all three rounds under par. He began his 2026-27 season by shooting -20 over three rounds at the California State Intercollegiate (-5. -8, -7) to set a CMS record for lowest tournament score, and stayed below par on all three rounds at Firestone, a tougher course in which only three players out of 72 finished the tournament in the red.
Last year, Aliaga ended the season with four rounds of par or better (E, E, -5, -5) to win the individual title at the NCAA Championships at -10. In the conference tournament, he had another three rounds in the red at the SCIAC Championships (-2, -1, -4) to come in tied for third at -7. A SCIAC regular season tournament at Tukwet Canyon in Beaumont was the last time he shot over par, when he ended the 36 holes in tough conditions at +4 in a tie for second, with the winning score over par (+1).
Samson Li came in fifth place for the Stags at +2 for the tournament, which included a -2 in his final round, with a birdie on his 18th hole that cut the deficit to one stroke, before Justy VanLehmden of John Carroll answered with a birdie in the final pairing to provide the final two-shot margin.
Logan Mills was in 13th place at +7, including a -1 on Tuesday.
CMS will return to action in two weeks when it hosts The Clash at Red Hill in Rancho Cucamonga.
