HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team stands in a tie for third place at -1 after the second of four days of the NCAA Division III Championships at the Mission Inn Resort.
CMS didn't quite finish its second round, as
Samson Li will have to finish the 18th hole tomorrow, after play was suspended due to darkness on Wednesday. Heading into Thursday, the Stags remain in strong shape as one of only four teams in the red after two days of play, just four shots off the lead.
Illinois Wesleyan surged into first place with a -9 performance for its second round, standing at -5 after 36 holes. Washington and Lee also had a strong day on Wednesday, shooting -8 to move into second place at -2. CMS and Carnegie Mellon stand tied for third at -1, with a dropoff of four shots to fifth place, where Methodist sits at +3.
Arnold He finished his round at even par on Wednesday to remain at -4 in the tournament, which is tied for fifth on the individual leaderboard.
Sebi Aliaga also came through with his second straight even par day on Wednesday and is tied for 17th place.
Logan Mills is tied for 26th at +1 after two full rounds, while Li is tied for 32nd at +2 with the 18th still to play tomorrow.
Birdies were relatively infrequent on Wednesday, but the Stags stayed steady and managed to string pars together, with He and Aliaga carding 14 pars in 18 holes, and Li tallying 14 in his 17 holes.
Jamison Tan had five birdies on the day, closing out with back-to-back birdies on No. 17 and No. 18 to finish with a 73.
After Li finsihes his second round early in the morning, CMS will begin its third round as it looks to keep itself in striking distance for the program's second-ever national title when the final round begins on Friday.
