Samson Li swept the SCIAC Athlete of the Year and the SCIAC Newcomer of the Year Award, senior
Jack Rende earned the SCIAC's Jesse Clark Sportsmanship Award,
Mitchell Fedorka,
Peter Bonilla and
Andres Cabral captured the Coaching Staff of the Year, the conference office announced today.
Li had a big impact in his debut season, including a second-place finish at the SCIAC Championships at -8. He is currently ranked No. 4 in the nation in the Clippd national rankings, with a 69.6 adjusted scoring average. He shot a 64 at the West Coast Invitational to tie the program single-round record at -8, with a round that included five straight birdies, as part of a remarkable stretch of 10 birdies in a span of 14 holes.
Rende is a former walk-on who made the team as a sophomore and climbed up the ladder to be part of the team's top five a year ago, helping CMS win the SCIAC title and competing at the NCAA Championships. The San Francisco native has interned with the Golf Channel and served as a broadcaster for CMS athletic events, while majoring in economics-accounting at Claremont McKenna.
Fedorka is in his sixth season as the head coach of the Stags, and has led CMS to four SCIAC titles in his five seasons of competition, as well as two third-place finishes at the SCIAC Championships. Last year, the Stags shot -22 on the final day to come back from 13 strokes down to win by seven. Bonilla is in his second season with the Stags, while Cabral is in his first.
Five members of the Stags were also officially honored on the All-SCIAC teams for top-16 finishes at the league championships, where CMS shot -16 on the final day to win by 20 strokes (after coming into the final round tied for first). Li was joined by
Sebi Aliaga and
Arnold He on the first team, while
Jamison Tan and
Logan Mills earned spots on the second team.
CMS will be in action at the NCAA Division III Championships from May 12-15 in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.
