SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Junior
Mackenzie Mayfield swam a 4:30.46 in the 400 IM to trim almost two seconds off her personal best and move up from eighth place to fourth in CMS history at the UC Santa Barbara Invitational on Saturday.
Mayfield came in with a top career time of 4:32.24, and knocked 1.78 seconds off that time to jump from eighth to fourth. Augusta Lewis holds the program record of 4:15.73, which won the national title in 2023. Mayfield also ranks second at CMS in the 200 IM, as well as fourth in the 100 breast, ninth in the 200 breast, and sixth in the 100 fly.
Mayfield also swam the 100 breast at the UC Santa Barbara Invitational and finished fifth in 1:06.39, taking .66 off her fastest time this season.
Kelly Prawira was just ahead of her in fourth in 1:06.11, taking six-hundredths off her top time of 2024-25, while Milan Mandfredi was seventh in 1:06.47, her fastest time this year by .31.
Revere Schmidt swam the 400 IM with Mayfield, and finished in 4:35.45 to take over five seconds off her season best. Schmidt then added a 17:18.17 in the 1650, which was over 17 seconds faster than her top time this year.
Sun Young Byun finished third in the 100 fly behind two swimmers from the Division I hosts, taking 1.05 seconds off her season-best time with a 55.31, just .08 off her personal best which ranks fourth at CMS.
Katy Shaw finished the 200 free in 1:53.65 to come in third in an event in which UC Santa Barbara had five of the top six. Sammy Ennis was third in the 100 back in 59.16, and the Athenas' 800 free relay swam a 7:38.82, over a second faster than it swam earlier this season at Pomona-Pitzer (7:40.00).
CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it closes out the regular season at home with the CMS Invitational, which will also be Senior Day for the program's Class of 2025.
