Stags Golf Finishes Second at First Spring Tournament

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Jamison Tan shot even par as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team opened up its spring schedule by coming second out of 12 teams at the West Coast Classic, hosted at the Victoria Club on Monday and Tuesday.

Ottawa (Arizona) came in first by shooting even par over the two-round tournament, including +3 yesterday and a -3 on Tuesday, the only round in the red for any team in the field. CMS was one shot back at +4 after Monday's round, but ended up +12 after a 296 (+8) on Tuesday. Pomona-Pitzer finished third, five shots behind the Stags at +17, while La Verne was fourth at +23.

Tan shot even par on both rounds to finish with a 144, just one shot off of sharing individual medalist honors with Nilay Naik of Pomona-Pitzer, and Grant Greazel and Kolby Shackelford of Ottawa. He had five birdies and 26 pars in his 36 holes over the two rounds.

Yuefeng (Michael) Ma and Yiqi (Andy) Sun each added top-10 finishes by tying for ninth at +3. Ma had an eagle and three birdies on his opening round, while Sun had a team-high nine birdies.  Arnold He came in 19th (out of 68 golfers) at +6 for the Stags, after also carding on eagle on Monday's opening round.

CMS will be back in action when it competes at SCIAC No. 1 on Feb. 22-23 at Olivas Links in Ventura.
