Yuefeng (Michael) Ma shot a six-under 66 to move up 10 spots and win the individual title at the first SCIAC regular season tournament on Sunday at the Olivas Links Golf Club.
Ma was in 11th after the first day yesterday after an even-par round, but carded eight birdies on Sunday, including five on the back nine, to win the individual title by two strokes over Jason Bustos of La Verne.Â
As a team, CMS began the day in sixth place at +4, nine shots back on a crowded leaderboard, and was able to move into a tie for fourth with a 284 (-4) on the second day, pulling level with La Verne at even par for the tournament. Redlands shot -7 on Sunday to win the tournament at -9, while Cal Lutheran was at -7 and Pomona-Pitzer finished one shot ahead of CMS and La Verne at -1.Â
Jamison Tan also earned a top 10 finish (seventh) by ending in the red for the second day in a row with a birdie on 18 to finish at -1. Tan also had back-to-back birdies on No. 3 and No. 4 on the front nine. Â
All five golfers for the Stags ended with a birdie on the 18th hole to help CMS move up the final standings.
Jonathan Zhang closed with three straight birdies to finish at +3 for the round, while
Ryan Liang birdied 17 and 18 to end his round at even par.
Yiqi (Andy) Sun picked up his fourth birdie on 18 to close with a 75 as well.Â
CMS will be back in action on March 10-11 at the Kingsmen Invitational hosted by Cal Lutheran, which will be held at Moorpark Country Club.Â
