VENTURA, Calif. - Stella Cheng shot a 1-under 71 in the second and final round on Sunday to earn individual medalist honors as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team took first place at SCIAC No. 1 at Olivas Links Golf Course. 

CMS finished with a team score of +20 over the 36-hole tournament, winning by four strokes over Pomona-Pitzer. Occidental placed third, 19 shots behind hte Athenas. 

Jessie Kong (+6, sixth), Esther Lee (+6, sixth) and Christine Yu (+7, eighth) were also in the top 10 for CMS, which came into Sunday's round with a one-shot lead, got off to a torrid start with a combined six birdies on the first four holes, and were able to hold on the rest of the way. 

Cheng and Lee both picked up birdies on the 18th hole to help the Athenas seal the victory after Pomona-Pitzer made a late run on the back nine to put some pressure on CMS, including three birdies on the last four holes from Rachel LeMay, who had the low round of the day (-3). Cheng's birdie was her third of the round, to go with 13 pars, and allowed her to win individual medalist honors by one stroke over Rachel Araujo of Occidental.

Lee's birdie on 18 was her fourth, after also starting out with birdies on No. 1 and No. 4. Yu started out the second round with birdies on No. 1 and No. 2 to help set the tone early, and added another birdie on the seventh to shoot -3 on the front nine, while Kong had a birdie on No. 2. 

CMS will be back in action on March 8-9 at the Westbrook Invitational in Arizona, hosted by George Fox.
