GREENSBORO, N.C. - Sun Young Byun qualified for the finals in the 100-yard butterfly, earning first-team All-America honors with the second-fastest time in CMS history, on the second day of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships at the Greensboro Aquatics Center.

Byun swam a 54.86 in prelims, which moved her up from fifth to second in CMS history and took a half-second off her previous personal best. She then swam a 54.78 in the finals to place sixth, leaving her just .02 behind the CMS record heading into her senior season next year.

Madeleine Kan and Mackenzie Mayfield made it into the evening session in the 100 fly as well, earning second-team All-America honors by coming in 13th and 14th respectively. Kan's 55.13 in prelims was a new personal best and has her at sixth on the program's all-time list. Mayfield earned first-team All-America honors yesterday in the 200 IM, coming in eighth place, and swims in her best event tomorrow, the 200 fly, in which enters the NCAA Championships seeded fifth.

Kan just missed qualifying for the evening session in the 50 free yesterday, coming in 19th out of 61, but earned her way into the evening session and second-team All-America honors today. Kan still has the 100 free left to come on Saturday, as well as the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay.

Katy Shaw and Revere Schmidt both swam in the 400 IM prelims today, tuning up for the 1650 on Saturday's final day, while Izzy Doud and Meilan Uyeno both competed in the one-meter dive and will try to earn All-America distinction when they compete again in Saturday's three-meter.

CMS now stands in 13th place in the team competition at the midway point with 41 points. The third day of the SCIAC Championships will take place tomorrow morning with prelims. Byun and Mayfield will both swim in the 200 fly, and the Athenas will also be in action in the 200 medley relay and the 800 free relay.
