CMS Men's Golf Finishes 20th, Ma (Fourth) Continues On For Final Two Rounds

Michael Ma will compete for the individual title on Thursday and Friday
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf ended in 20th place after two rounds of the NCAA Division III Championships out of 40 teams, but just missed the cut (top 15) and was eliminated from the team competition.

Yuefeng (Michael) Ma shot a 67 on Wednesday (-5) to move up to +1 for the tournament, good for a tie for fourth place, and he will continue on in his pursuit of an individual championship, with the last two rounds on Thursday and Friday.

Ma came out of the gates with a flourish on Wednesday, opening up on No. 16 and then getting an eagle on No. 17 and a birdie on No. 18, to stand at -3 after only three holes. He added three more birdies on No. 7, No. 10 and No. 13 on his way to his 67.

Ma will tee off for his third round at 7:30 PM (Pacific team) as he will try to add an individual national title to the three SCIAC individual titles that he was won or shared in his career, including one this year, when he shot a 66 on the final day to pull into a tie for first.

CMS qualified for nationals after a terrific final-day performance at the SCIAC Championships to earn the automatic bid, shooting -22 as a team with three 66s from Ma, Jamison Tan and Arnold He, and a 68 from Yiqi (Andy) Sun
