PENFIELD, N.Y. -
Yuefeng (Michael) Ma tied for 14th out of 250 competitors at the NCAA Division III Golf Championships from May 20-23 at Midvale Country Club and Cobblestone Country Club.
Ma finished six over for the four rounds, which were played in difficult, rainy conditions. Only three players in the field finished under par, with Edward Coffren of Lynchburg winning at -8.
Ma had a 67 for his second round on Wednesday, as he tried to get CMS above the cutline as a team, but the Stags finished just below that mark. He stood in a tie for fourth place at that point, and was able to continue on in the individual competition, ending up 14th.
His final round saw him playing well on Thursday evening, standing at -1 when the round was suspended due to darkness, as the tournament tried to get in as many holes as it could due to weather concerns on Friday. He wasn't quite as sharp on Friday morning, but did manage to birdie 17 to move up inside the top 20 at 14th in a field of over 200 competitors.
Ma was the lone senior to compete for the Stags at nationals, and the remaining team members will look to get back to nationals next season.
