CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Maya Weigel-Murphy of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team earned the SCIAC Pitcher of the Week honor for games through Sunday, May 4, the SCIAC office announced today.
Weigel-Murphy earned the honor after throwing a complete-game four-hitter in an 8-1 win over Chapman on Saturday in the regular season finale. That complete game win came on her Senior Day, and it also clinched a SCIAC Tournament bid for the Athenas, who came into the final game tied for the fourth and final spot with Cal Lutheran, but owning the tiebreaker with the Regals.
Weigel-Murphy becomes the second CMS pitcher to be honored by the SCIAC this season, after
Hannah Adams earned the honor twice earlier in the year.
Emma Suh was also named the Hitter of the Week two weeks ago.
CMS will open SCIAC Tournament play on Friday at top-seeded Redlands in the double-elimination tournament. Chapman and Pomona-Pitzer will meet in the other Friday opening-round contest, with the championship round taking place on Sunday.
