Athenas Golf Earns Bid to NCAA Division III Championships

The Athenas will try for their seventh straight top-10 finish at nationals
CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team earned an at-large selection to the NCAA Division III Championships, the NCAA announced this afternoon.

The NCAA Division III Championships will be held in Williamsburg, Virginia from May 13-16. A total of 34 teams and six individuals will begin the tournament on Tuesday, with 15 teams advancing after the 36-hole cut on Wednesday.

The Athenas were one of nine teams to earn at-large selections to the 34-team field, after 25 teams received automatic bids. CMS will be trying to earn a top-10 finish for the seventh year in a row (not counting a two-year interruption due to the pandemic). The Athenas came in eighth last year and a close third in 2023, while also winning the national title in 2018.

Last week, CMS came in second place at the SCIAC Championships behind Pomona-Pitzer, which earned the SCIAC's automatic bid. CMS and Redlands were two of the at-large selections, giving the SCIAC three teams in the field.

After traveling to Virginia this year, CMS will serve as the host site for the NCAA Division III Championships next year, which will be held at Desert Willow Golf Resort in Palm Desert.
