SPARTANBURG. S.C. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's cross country team had the second through fifth finishers to score 22 points, well ahead of second-place Vassar with 79, as it dominated its second straight event to start the 2025 season by winning the NCAA Division III Pre-Nationals in Spartanburg.
Riley Capuano was the runner-up in 21:56.5, finishing behind only Adriana Crabtree of Illinois Wesleyan in 21:47.6.
Sadie Drucker came in under 22 minutes in third place in 21:59.4, with
Elle Marsyla close behind in 22:01.6, finishing fourth.
Sara Wexler also added a top-five finish in 22:07.7, giving the Athenas four of the top five.
CMS then capped off the team title with two more runners in the top ten.
Jie Yi Denise Chen was the fifth and final scorer for the Athenas in eighth place with a 22:20.1, followed just over a second later by
Olivia Backholm in ninth in 22:21.5.
Brannan Rosenfeld ended in the top 15 as well with a 22:39.8 to place 14th, while
Emily Kendrick earned a top-25 with a 23:09.7 to come in 24th.
Case Western came in third place in the team standings with 113 points, followed by Wellesley in fourth and Colby in fifth. CMS also dominated its first meet of the year at the Coyote Challenge two weeks ago, finishing with 18 points.
CMS will be back in action next week when it travels to the UC Riverside Invitational, followed by the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational in Claremont in two weeks.
