CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Dylan Sherman of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps football team earned the SCIAC Special Teams Player of the Week for games through Saturday, Oct. 31, the conference office announced today.
Sherman averaged 38.5 yards a punt, with a long of 49, and pinned Redlands deep in its own territory twice in the fourth quarter to help CMS to a 35-14 win. One of his fourth-quarter punts pinned Redlands on its own eight-yard line, and the second pinned the Bulldogs on the 11, both with the Stags up 21-7, as CMS was able to win the field position war late and pull away for the 35-14 victory that secured a berth in the SCIAC Championship game.
Sherman joins two-time winner
Sean Lee, who made five field goals against Pomona-Pitzer and three against Whittier, and
Zeke Vallez, who blocked a field goal against La Verne, as SCIAC Special Teams Players of the Week for CMS.
Evan Gerber has also twice been named the Defensive Player of the Week, while
Joseph Kessler has won it once.
CMS will be back in action when it faces Azusa Pacific on Saturday at 5 p.m. in its home finale.
