CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team remained undefeated on the year at 8-0, picking up a 7-0 shutout win over UC Santa Cruz on Saturday at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. CMS also earned a 7-0 win over Ventura College in the afternoon.
The morning match against the Banana Slugs saw a tight battle in doubles, but the Stags won on all three courts.
Advik Mareedu and
Caleb Settles started off with a 6-3 win at No. 1, and
Brandon Vu and
Amrith Kodumuri followed with a 6-4 win at No. 3 to secure the doubles point.
Warren Pham and
Henry Wilson made it a sweep with a 7-5 win at No. 2.
Vu was the first to finish in singles at No. 6, earning a quick 6-0, 6-2 win, and Mareedu made it 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 1. Pham then earned the clinch with a dominant 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2.
Settles added a win at No. 3 for the Stags, prevailing in a pair of tight sets 6-4, 6-4. Kodumuri earned a 6-3, 7-6 win at No. 4 by taking the second-set tiebreaker 7-4, and
Ethan Kim capped off the shutout with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 5.
In the Ventura match, Pham played at No. 1 singles and went to a tiebreaker in the first before winning 7-6, 6-2.
Sibi Raja,
Josh Kim, Kodumuri,
Ethan Kim, and Vu added singles wins at 2-6. Kim and Raja also earned a competitive 7-6 win at No. 1 doubles, taking the tiebreaker 7-4.
CMS will be back in action on Saturday, when it plays at Biola at 10 a.m. and then faces Westmont at home at 5 p.m.
