CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team won eight events as it opened up the 2026 season at the OIDFE Challenge at Burns Track Complex.
The Athenas won both throwing events, as
Emily Ortiz took first in the weight throw at 14.95 meters (49'0.75") and
Lorrell Shiely led a 1-2-3 finish in the shot put at 35'4" (10.77) meters, followed by
Sophia Laudi in second and Ortiz in third.
Georgia Rogers and
Madeline Seifert won field events as well in the high jump and pole vault. Rogers took first place in the high jump at 5'1" (1.55 meters), while Seifert cleared 11'11.75" in the pole vault (3.65 meters) to start her senior season off with a win, while
Malia Ortiz came in second.
Skye Georgiadis won the first running event of the season in a close battle with Haley Butenschoen of Vanguard in the 1000 meters, as Georgiadis crossed in 3:06.40, just ahead of the 3:06.83 from Butenschoen.
All-American
Josephine Jett was the winner in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.82 seconds, a margin of .7 seconds over Haley Svendsen of Vanguard. Jett also ran a 7.71 to win her heat in the 60-yard dash before coming in third in the final.
Sadie Drucker held off a comeback effort from teammate
Chloe Gudas to take first place in the mile with a time of 5:13.17, with Gudas finishing a strong second in 5:15.87.
Elle Marsyla added another distance win for CMS in the 3000, breaking 10 minutes in 9:57.15, as the Athenas went 1-2-3-4-5, with
Sara Wexler,
Hope Dragseth,
Jie Yi Denise Chen and
Brannan Rosenfeld the next four to finish.
CMS will be back in action at the Whitworth Indoor Invitational next weekend, before returning to outdoor competition at the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers Meet on Feb. 21.
