CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Rebecca Kong of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team earned the SCIAC Athlete of the Week Award for events through Sunday, March 1, the conference office announced today.
Kong was dominant in singles to help CMS win the title at the ITA Indoor Championships this weekend. The Athenas navigated a tough road to the championship, with 4-3 wins over No. 4 Emory and No. 1 WashU, and a 4-1 win over No. 2 Chicago.
Kong earned identical 6-4, 6-1 wins against both Emory and WashU and then a 6-1, 6-1 win against Chicago. All three times, her efforts helped CMS swing the momentum early in singles after dropping the doubles point.
CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts Vassar at 10 a.m.
