CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team ascended to the No. 1 position in the latest national rankings released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
CMS jumped up from No. 5 in the most recent poll up to the No. 1 spot following the ITA Indoor Championships last weekend, when it defeated No. 4 Emory, No. 1 WashU and No. 2 Chicago on the way to the title.
The Athenas became the lowest seed to ever win the ITA Indoors, following a pair of 4-3 wins over Emory and WashU, and a 4-1 win over Chicago.
Bell Zhou provided the clincher against Emory,
Ananya Sriniketh earned the clinch against WashU and
Lindsay Eisenman won the fourth and decisive point against Chicago, all in three sets.
Rebecca Kong also won all of her matches in straight sets over the three days, earning her the SCIAC Athlete of the Week honor. while
Leah Baroudi picked up a pair of big wins at No. 5 singles as well.
CMS will be back in action this weekend when it hosts Vassar for a 10 a.m. contest at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.
