CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Advik Mareedu of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team earned the SCIAC Athlete of the Week Award for events through Sunday, March 22, the league office announced today.
Mareedu went 7-0 this week as CMS finished as the runner-up at the Stag-Hen Invitational and added a non-conference win over Colorado College. He was 4-0 in singles, including a comeback 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win in the championship match against Tufts, which tied the match 3-3 before the Jumbos got the final point in a third-set tiebreaker. He was also 3-0 playing at No. 1 doubles with
Caleb Settles.
It marks the second time this season that Mareedu has earned the honor, after also picking it up on opening week. The Stags have also had four other winners, with
Henry Wilson earning it after the ITA Indoor Championship,
Sibi Raja winning it after a 7-6, 7-6 win for the clincher in a 4-3 win over undefeated Biola,
Warren Pham earning it after wins over UC Santa Cruz and Ventura, and
Josh Kim picking it up last week after a sweep of Bowdoin and Haverford.
CMS will be back in action this week for three non-conference home matches, facing Williams on Thursday, and both MIT and Middlebury on Saturday.
