CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team won 12 of the 19 events contested as it helped the program earned first place at the SCIAC Quad Cup at the Burns Track Complex.
The CMS women had 233 points towards the combined total of 459 with the men, a margin of 164 points over Chapman in second with 295 points. Chapman's women had 167 points, 66 behind the Athenas.
Josephine Jett was a four-time winner, taking first in the 100 hurdles in 13.86, first in the 100-meter dash in 11.98 and first in the 200 meters in 25.08. She was also part of the 4x100 relay team that took first in 47.76, along with
Luna Young,
Kaitlyn Creighton and Sydney Beherns.
Madeline Seifert was a two-time winner in field events, winning the pole vault a clearance of 12'0.5", and the long jump with a distance of 17'8.75". Shriya Velicahala won first place in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:04.45.
The CMS distance runners provided three wins as well, with
Riley Capuano taking first in the 1500 with a time of 4:33.78,
Hope Dragseth dominating the field in the 5000 with a time of 17:20.74, and
Emily Kendrick winning the steeplechase in 11:03.01.
The Athena throwers picked up a pair of first place finishes as well, as
Sophia Laudi was the winner in the javelin with a distance of 132'1" and
Emily Ortiz won the hammer throw with a distance of 154'1" (while also coming second in the discus).
Lorrell Shiely was second to Laudi in the javelin with a throw of 129'9", which moves her into second place in CMS history (behind Laudi), and was also second in the shot put.
Georgia Rogers finished second in the 100 hurdles to Jett, and was also runner-up in the high jump.
Jie Yi Denise Chen was second behind Dragseth in the 5000.
CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it travels to the UC San Diego Invitational.
