Jessie Kong shot even par for the second straight day to earn individual medalist honors, and
Ella Chiu shot -3 on Sunday's final round as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team cruised to a first-place finish at the Westbrook Invitational.
CMS shot even par on Saturday to build a 21-shot lead, and then shot +3 on Sunday, maintaining the same 21-shot lead in the final standings over Redlands (+24). Trinity (Texas) was a distant third at +38, just ahead of George Fox (+39) and Arizona Christian (+40).
Kong earned individual medalist honors by two strokes following her second straight 71, she took the turn at +2 on Sunday, but earned birdies on No. 10 and No. 14 to get back to even par, and then parred her final four holes to finish with a two-day 142.
Chiu made a big surge up the leaderboard with her -3 on Sunday to tie for second at +2 for the 36-hole tournament, along with
Alisa Ching, while
Esther Lee tied for fifth at +3.
Chiu had the low round of the day on Sunday by two strokes, which included a stretch of five birdies in seven holes from No. 3-9, including three in a row on 5-7 (a par-5, a par-4, and a par-3).
Ching had a birdie on No. 18 to finish off her tournament in a tie for second. She had the low round in the field on Saturday at -3, which included an eagle on the first hole, when her approach shot from 115 yards found the cup.
CMS will be back in action when it travels to the Jekyll Island Invitational in two weeks.
