CLAREMONT, Calif. - Elle Marysla of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team earned the SCIAC Track Athlete of the Week for events through Sunday, April 19, the conference office announced today.
Elle Marsyla ran the tenth-fastest time in Division III history in the 10000 meters at the Bryan Clay Invitational, setting a new CMS record, and the top time so far this season, with a 33:51.05. She ran almost a minute faster than her previous best of 34:42.72, set earlier this season at the Mangrum Invitational hosted by CSU San Marcos.
It marks the second time this season that Marsyla has earned the SCIAC Track Athlete of the Week, after also winning it when the set the CMS record in the 5000 meters at the Occidental Distance Carnival earlier this year. She was also the SCIAC Cross Country Athlete of the Year after winning the individual title at the league championships, and finished seventh at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships to help the Athenas finish in third place as a team.
CMS has now won the SCIAC Track Athlete of the Week six times, with
Josephine Jett winning three times and
Riley Capuano winning once, as well as the SCIAC Field Athlete of the Week four times, with
Madeline Seifert and
Sophia Laudi each winning twice.
CMS will be back in action on May 2-3 for the SCIAC Championships.
