CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Josephine Jett of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team earned the SCIAC Track Athlete of the Year Award, and
Glenn Stewart,
Marina Muncan,
Emily Ramey-Root,
Veronica Bell Amarasekara,
Jeff Venglass,
Nicolas Acosta and
Bailey Rockholt earned the SCIAC Coaching Staff of the Year honor, the league office announced today.
Jett won three individual SCIAC titles for CMS in the 100 meters, 200 meters and 100-meter hurdles, and contributed to a 4x100 relay win as well. Her time of 13.76 in the 100-meter hurdles tied a SCIAC record that has held since 1981, while her 24.03 in the 200 meters set a new SCIAC meet record, as well as a new CMS program record. She enters the final two weeks before the NCAA Championships ranked in the top 10 in the nation in all three of her individual events.
The CMS coaching staff guided the Athenas to their second straight conference championship this year, sweeping both the men's and women's titles, while winning the ninth women's title in the last 10 years after a streak of seven straight from 2015-2023. Stewart has now been at the helm for nine conference titles for the Stags and nine for the Athenas in his 10 years at the helm (not counting the two championships missed due to the COVID-19 pandemic).
Several student-athletes will compete this weekend at the APU Franson Last Chance Meet in hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Division III Championships later this month in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
