CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team will have six student-athletes represent the Athenas at the NCAA Division III Championships next week in La Crosse, Wisconsin after selections were officially announced today.
The six Athenas will compete in nine total events, as
Elle Marsyla heads to nationals as the No. 1 seed in both the 5000 meters and the 10000 meters, while
Josephine Jett qualified in three different events, the 100 meters, 200 meters, and 100-meter hurdles, after winning the SCIAC Track Athlete of the Year Award.
In addition,
Riley Capuano earned the No. 3 seed in the 1500 meters and will head back to nationals after a second-place finish as a sophomore, before studying abroad last spring.
Sophia Laudi is also the No. 3 seed in the NCAAs in the javelin throw for CMS.
Madeline Seifert earned a spot in the pole vault by moving up from No. 23 to No. 19 on her last try at 12'8" on the last day of qualifying on Thursday, putting her above the 22-athlete threshold.
Hope Dragseth also took the final spot in the 10000 meters for the Athenas.
The NCAAs will get underway on Thursday with finals in the pole vault and 10000 meters, as well as prelims in the 200 meters and 1500 meters. Friday will have prelims in the 100 meters and 100-meter hurdles, while finals will take place in the 100, 200, 1500 and hurdles on Saturday, as well as the 5000 meters and javelin competitions.
