CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Valerie Wraith of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team earned the SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week Award for games through Sunday, April 5, the SCIAC office announced this afternoon.
Wraith had a combined nine goals as CMS took a pair of SCIAC road wins over Chapman and La Verne to set up a battle for a share of Pomona-Pitzer at home on Wednesday. With the Athenas holding a narrow 5-4 lead against Chapman in the final minute of the half, she scored with 36 seconds left to make it 6-4 and then scored three times in the second half as CMS was able to pull away. She then added four goals and two assists in the La Verne win.
Wraith becomes the third different winner for the Athenas this season.
Grace Clark was the second honoree when she took Offensive Player of the Week honors on March 16 after wins over Occidental and Chapman, and
Natalie Stearns earned the Defensive Player of the Week award after opening weekend at the CSU Fullerton Invitational.
CMS will host Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday at 7 p.m. with a chance to pull even atop the SCIAC standings.
