Mareedu, Pham, Settles to Represent Stags Tennis at NCAA Singles/Doubles Championships

Advik Mareedu will try to repeat as the NCAA singles champion
CLAREMONT, Calif. - Seniors Advik Mareedu (singles, doubles) and Warren Pham (singles) and sophomore Caleb Settles (doubles) will represent Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis at the NCAA Individual Championships in Chattanooga, Tennessee later this month.

The individual championships will take place after the conclusion of the team championships, where the Stags are the No. 1 overall seed with a 30-1 record. Mareedu will try to repeat as singles champion, after winning the title at the NCAA Championships last year at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.

Mareedu is currently ranked No. 1 in the nation in singles, and is also No. 1 in the nation in doubles with Settles. Settles earned All-America honors in doubles last year with Brandon Vu, winning the ITA West Regional Championship, and has been paired with Mareedu this season with the two combining for a 25-3 record (with one loss to Division II Azusa Pacific).

Mareedu is currently 34-2 in singles and 75-3 in the last two years, after a 41-1 season last year that featured singles titles in the ITA Cup and the NCAA Division III Championships. His only loss a year ago was to Division II Westmont, when he had two match points before falling in three sets. This year, he fell in the ITA Cup singles championship to Ruilin Feng of Emory, and to Michael Melnikov of Swarthmore at the ITA Indoor Championship in February, both in three sets, but has won
his last 23 matches in a row since.

Pham qualified for the singles title for the second year in a row, and enters this year's NCAA Tournament play with a 17-8 record, with three losses to non-Division I opponents. He earned All-America honors in singles last year for the first time, and will try to make it two in a row with a strong showing in Chattanooga.

CMS will begin its postseason play with a home match against East Texas Baptist on Friday at 6 p.m. The winner of that match will play the winner of the Sewanee-Colorado College semifinal on Saturday at 2 p.m. for the right to advance to Chattanooga.
