THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's volleyball team opened up SCIAC play with a tough five-set defeat in a road match at Cal Lutheran on Thursday evening at Gilbert Arena.
With the loss, CMS slips to 4-6 on the year, with three losses in five sets and three others in four sets. Cal Lutheran improves to 5-6 with the win and breaks a 14-match losing streak against the Athenas, dating back to 2018.
Set scores were 25-18, 22-25, 25-9, 22-25, 15-11 as CMS twice came back from a set down to pull even. The Athenas were also down 10-8 in the fifth and came back to tie it 10-10, but the Regals closed on a 5-1 run to take the home win.
Ashlee Sento led CMS with 16 kills, while
Shae Delany had a double-double with 10 kills and 16 digs.
Elise Arends had 23 digs to lead the Athenas defensively, while
Solvej Eversoll had eight blocks.
CMS will next be in action when it returns home to face Chapman on Saturday at 2 p.m. for its first conference home match.
