Three Stags Earn All-SCIAC Honors, Blees POY

The SCIAC Champion Stags had three players selected to the Men's Basketball All-SCIAC Team which was released Monday.  Chris Blees earned Player of the Year honors becoming the first player in SCIAC men's basketball history to earn the award three times.  He was also Player of the Year in 2008-09 and 2009-10.  Mani Maceira and Tyler Gaffaney earned First Team All-SCIAC honors.  Maceira was also a First Team selection in 2005-06 and 2006-07 while Gaffaney earned the honors for the first time.  In addition, Joseph Anderson was selected as the Ducey Award recipient.

Blees led the Stags and was third in the conference in scoring (15.7/g).  He also led the Stags in rebounding (6.4/g) and assists (2.7/g) and finished seventh and fourth in the conference in those respective categories.  He also finished fifth in the SCIAC in field goal percentage (51.6) and tenth in steals (1.3/g).

Maceira finished fourth in the SCIAC in free throw percentage (83.9), seventh in field goal percentage (50.0), tenth in scoring (11.9/g) and 14th in rebounding (4.3/g).   Gaffaney was second in the SCIAC in three-point percentage (44.2), third in field goal percentage (53.8), ninth in blocks (9), tenth in assists (1.9/g), 14th in scoring (11.2/g) and 16th in rebounding (4.5/g).

The Ducey Award is awarded to a senior player who best exemplifies the high ideals demonstrated by Ted Ducey during his tenure as head basketball coach at the Claremont-Mudd Colleges. The recipient must qualify on both ability and the personal characteristics of leadership, self-discipline, determination, sportsmanship and academics.  A two-time Second Team All-SCIAC selection, Anderson led the Stags and finished third in the SCIAC in steals (25).  He also was ninth in blocks (9) and 18th in rebounding (4.4/g).  Anderson has been on four straight SCIAC Championship teams and played in 82 Stag wins, a CMS record he shares with Blees.
