LOS ANGELES, CA -- The Stags earned additional hardware this
afternoon by earning a Player of the Year Award and two All-SCIAC
Team awards. Chris Blees (JR,
Carmichael) capped off a fantastic regular season and SCIAC
tournament by being honored as the David Wells SCIAC Player of the
Year. Jason
Toney (SR, Yorba Linda) was named First Team All-SCIAC and Joseph
Anderson (SO, Lafayette) was named Second Team All-SCIAC.
This is Blees' second consecutive Player of the Year award and
he is only the second player to ever win two (CMS' Todd Thomas was
the first in 86-87 and 87-88). Blees is third in the league in
scoring (17.9 PPG), fifth in rebounding (7.3 RPG) and second in
defensive rebounding (6.0 RPG). He also leads the team in points,
rebounds and steals (45). In the SCIAC tournament, he caused the
game-saving turnover that sealed their win in the SCIAC final
against Pomona-Pitzer.
Toney leads the team in assists with 2.5 APG, is second in
steals with 43, and third in scoring with 8.0 PPG. In regular
season conference play, Toney led the team in steals and assists
and was second in points and blocks.
Anderson is currently shooting an average of 50% from the
three-point line, averaging 6.5 PPG and leading the team in blocks
with 13. His eight offensive rebounds against Pomona-Pitzer in the
SCIAC final proved to be crucial in creating second-chance scoring
opportunities for the Stags.
Congratulations to Chris, Jason and Joseph!
