TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Senior
Oliver Pick came in 36th place to earn All-America honors for the first time in his career to highlight the performance of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's cross country team at the NCAA Division III Championships on Saturday.
CMS finished in 26th place as a team, with Wisconsin-La Crosse earning the team title and Wartburg finishing second. Christian Patzka of Wisconsin-Whitewater won the individual title in 24:01.6, winning by 2.1 seconds over Mohammad BAti of Augsburg.
Pick ran a 24:40.4 to make it under the All-America cut (top 40) by six seconds. He was in 15th place at the 2K split and was in danger of fading after falling to 37th at the midway point, but he dug down and found his groove and was able to earn his way onto the podium for the first time.
Adam Sage, who was the SCIAC individual champion, was the second Stag to cross the line in 24:59.3 to come in 67th place.
Hale Behan was third with a 25:54.7 while first-year
Jonas Rickert scored for the Stags in his first trip to nationals, just breaking 26 minutes with a 25:59.4.
Senior
Daniel Fajardo capped off his CMS cross country career by scoring for the Stags in 26:06.5 as the fifth to cross.
CMS will look to get back to nationals next year, but will have a difficult chore replacing its senior class, which included four of its top seven which ran at nationals (Pick, Sage, Fajardo and Agustin Gomez De la Vega).
