CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Adam VanLuvanee finished in 4:35.36 to take first place in the 500-yard freestyle, with
Lucas Lang, the defending national champion in the 1650 coming in second, and
Cole Sumino third to highlight the first day of a two-day dual with Pomona-Pitzer on Friday.
CMS holds a narrow 59-51 lead in the team scoring, with two more sessions to come tomorrow. The Stags also got a win from the 200-yard freestyle relay team to wrap up the first day, with
Jeremy Tan,
Spencer Merodio,
Theo Johnson and
Dylan Krueger earning a 1:21.69 to move into seventh in CMS history.
VanLuvanee's time gave him a win of just over one second ahead of Lang's 4:36.41, while Sumino clocked a 4:39.45.
Cyrus Gaylord also earned first in the three-meter dive with a 341.60, edging out Pomona-Pitzer's Tommy Matheis by 2.25.
Kenny Eckel came in second in the 200 IM with a time of 1:52.38, followed by
Lucas Williams in third in 1:52.61. Krueger was second in the 50 free with a 20.88, with Johnson coming in third in 21.17.
The second day of the dual will get underway tomorrow with a morning session at 10 a.m. and an afternoon session at 3 p.m.
