LOS ANGELES, Calif. -
Evan Deedy won the 200-yard breaststroke and
William Jones earned the title in the 1650-yard freestyle to highlight the performance of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimming and diving team on the final day of the SCIAC Championships on Saturday at the East Los Angeles College (ELAC) Swim Center.
CMS ended up in second place after the four-day event, with Pomona-Pitzer ending in first place and Chapman third.
Deedy had the third-best time in prelims in the 200 breast, but came through in the final with a 2:00.72 to take a narrow win over Thomas Fenton of Caltech (2:00.92) and teammate
Kenny Eckel (2:00.99).
Deedy was the second-place finisher in the 100 breast yesterday, while Eckel won the 200 IM on Thursday and came in third in the 100 breast to earn his way onto the podium for all three individual events.
Jones made it a distance sweep for the Stags with a 15:37.94 in the 1650, edging Thomas Langlois of Whittier by just over a second (1.21).
Pierce McShane was the winner of the 500 free on Thursday.
Charlie Hill also came in fourth for the Stags in the 1650, and
Alex Johnson earned fifth.
CMS will await NCAA selections after the conclusion of league competitions, while the Stag divers will head to regional qualifiers next weekend at Emory.
